About Me

Malcolm Russell-Einhorn in front of a map of Africa

I come from a theater family—my father was a noted costume designer and theater historian and my mother an actress and student of Spanish literature—and I was an avid theatergoer in my youth who acted in a few plays and did improv and then…pursued a career in international development and academia, which had me working in Eastern Europe, Central Asia, and East Africa on issues of legal and public administration reform and teaching courses on these subjects.

Throughout the next three decades, I began working on a few play ideas, one of which evolved into my current play, Fragments. This play drew on my interests in history, psychology, and Central European culture and set me on a dedicated playwriting path that has seen two other plays emerge that are still being written or revised. Each of my plays deals with issues of personal conflict—ethical and relational—against the backdrop of tumultuous cultural change affecting people’s daily lives and challenging their humanity and moral compass.
